The thing about this is that sculptures like these in art history were for the male gaze. Photoshop a phone to it and suddenly she’s seen as vain and conceited. That’s why I’m 100% for selfie culture because apparently men can gawk at women but when we realize how beautiful we are we’re suddenly full of ourselves…

“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.” ― John Berger, Ways of Seeing
I know I’ve reblogged this before but it’s so important.

art is hard work, in case nobody’s told you today
Art is hard work, and it is often unreasonable to come home from your day job or your school or both and then sit down and expect yourself to be a creative font.
Art is hard work. If it’s especially hard for you today I want to remind you it’s not because you are lazy, but that art is hard work.

The pictures above show Zachęta’s Great Hall during the exhibition “Polish Painting of the 21st Century” by Leon Tarasewicz. Zachęta — National Gallery of Art is a place that combines modernity with history. We are the oldest gallery to display contemporary art in Warsaw, dating back to 1860. Zachęta’s mission is to popularize and promote contemporary art. We display solo, group and thematic exhibitions that present the audience with the latest phenomena of note both in Polish and international art.
Some people see a mess. Others see a masterpiece. There’s no reason you can’t be both at the same time.
Don’t forget that you are worthy even on your messiest days.

Project Monsoon Clever colorful street art that only appears when it rains
After the Superhydrophobic Street Art, which uses a superhydrophobic coating to create designs which appear only in the rain, here is the Project Monsoon, which uses the same concept, this time with hydrochromic
painting, which reveals its color only when wet. This amazing and
clever project was designed by a Korean team of designers, in
collaboration with Pantone, to provide color to the streets of Seoul
during the rainy season, while paying tribute to the Korean culture. A
brilliant idea! Source: ufunk

Find a beautiful piece of art. If you fall in love with Van Gogh or Matisse or John Oliver Killens, or if you fall love with the music of Coltrane, the music of Aretha Franklin, or the music of Chopin - find some beautiful art and admire it, and realize that that was created by human beings just like you, no more human, no less.
